Team Joey was formed in support of 16-year-old Joey Abicca, a lifelong Encinitas resident. On April 10th, 2009, Joey was injured in an accident and sustained a spinal cord injury (at T11) that rendered him paralyzed from the waist down. Joey has been in intensive, exercise-based therapy at Project Walk in Carlsbad and is making slow but incredible progress. His attitude and determination to walk again have helped him through his many months of rehabilitation, but his path to recovery is a long one.
Unfortunately, the therapies that have been helping Joey's recovery are not covered by insurance. As a parent, you do everything you can for your children, and Joey’s parents are no different. In order for Joey to stay on his path to recovery, they are forced to look to the continued generosity of others for help.
