We're so excited to announce the 2nd Annual Joey Will Walk Again Century Bike Ride, benefiting the NTAF SW Spinal Cord Injury Fund in Honor of Joey Abicca. Taking place on Saturday, September 10, 2011, a team of 30 riders will cycle 100 miles from Irvine to San Diego to raise funds for Joey. The event is being organized by Sinead Murphy, co-worker of Joanne Richardson, Joey's aunt.
Joey was in a very serious accident last year leading to a spinal cord injury that has left him paralyzed from the waist down. He has been in intensive, exercise-based therapy and is making slow but incredible progress. At 16 years old, with his whole life ahead of him, it is hard to contemplate that he may not be given the best chance possible for recovery. His attitude and perseverance to walk again have helped him through his many months of rehabilitation, but unfortunately without therapy, which is not covered by insurance, his recovery will be compromised.
